Before the 8:00am Service (be there at 7:45am)

1.     Ensure that assigned volunteers are present – check the bulletin “yellow pages” for a list of the day’s scheduled volunteers.  Recruit any replacements, if necessary, and make other assignments

a.     Assisting Minister (Myron or Pastor Luther can help identify candidates)

b.     Nametag Host

c.     Nursery Assistant

d.     Two people to collect the offering (move offering plates to back of church)

 

Coffee Pickup (8:30am)

2.     Pick up the coffee from the Coffee Bean Store in the MB Village Mall at 8:30 Sunday morning

3.     Since we're regular customers, we receive 1 coffee-to-go box free of charge

4.     The Coffee Bean Store POCs are Jackie (Mgr) & Rose (Asst Mgr) ... 310-546-3359

5.     The current order is 5 coffee-to-go boxes, 3 caffeinated, 1 flavored, & 1 decaffeinated and half-and-half packets, as need.  Check the small fridge in Bethany before going for the coffee

6.     Mary will place a neon pink envelope with a Coffee Bean Store Card in her box.  Be sure to get a receipt and return it with the card to Mary's box, so we know the balance available on the card

 

During the 8:00am Service (at about 8:45am)

7.     Place the coffee on tables on the patio with half-and-half, sugar, cups, napkins, etc. and help in setting up tables and Costco Bakery Goods, as needed  (This should be done by about 8:45)

8.     Lead the announcements at the end of the service.

a.          Walk up to the front during the final hymn

b.         Use the microphone (there is no on/off switch, it is turned on by the sound technician)

c.          Introduce yourself as the Council Host and give a short welcome, especially welcoming visitors.  Direct people to announcements in the bulletin’s “Yellow Pages” and coordinate any announcements from others

d.         Finish by inviting people to enjoy coffee and snacks on the outside patio

 

Before the 9:30am & 11:00am Services

9.     Be sure to check the notebook in the church office to see if there are any heads up items for today

10.  Ensure that assigned volunteers are present – check the bulletin “yellow pages” for a list of the day’s scheduled volunteers.  Recruit any replacements, if necessary

11.  Recruit volunteers for activities during the worship service with the goal of integrating as many people as possible into the worship life of the church.

a.     Two people to collect the offering - give green instruction card for review, if necessary

b.     Two people for communion assistants – give purple instruction card for review, if necessary

c.     Up to four additional people for the 11:00 Service to Process the Cross, Bible, and Communion Elements, as necessary

12.  Check that 4 offering plates are at the back of the sanctuary, if not, move from front shelf

13.  Encourage people into the sanctuary by service start time to help ensure on-time start of the service.

 

After the Services (at about 12:15pm)

14.  Clean up hospitality area. 

a.     Move Costco goods to a table in Bethany near the fireplace.

b.     Move returnable coffee containers (not cardboard) to Bethany near the fireplace for pickup.

c.     Fold card tables and store along the wall near the copy room door

d.     Store any re-usable items (tablecloths, left over supplies, etc.) in the yellow bin and put in top shelf of storage closet and leftover creamers in the small refrigerator both in Bethany Hall.

15.  Close any open windows, especially check the sanctuary and Brostrom Hall

16.  Check that the copier is off - On/Off switch is on the right side of the copier

17.  Lock all doors that allow access into any building.  In addition, lock:

a.     The door into the copy room

b.     The door into the church office

c.     The two doors from the kitchen that lead into the hall as well as the outside door

d.     Both doors into the Pastor’s office

Note:  If people are still on the premises they can be asked to lock up when finished. 

 

 

Training

One or more opportunities for training/retraining of Council Members to take on the Council Host assignment will be offered each year.  This will be conducted as a hands on, walk through workshop with an opportunity to ask questions and comment on the tasks to be performed.
